At St. Paul’s Berlin, we embrace the worship style and traditions of the Episcopal Church laid out in the Book of Common Prayer, the red book with the cross you’ll find in the front of your pew. The Book of Common Prayer was introduced in 1549 by the English Reformers so that people could worship God in their own language instead of Latin. This book made prayer available to everyone, so all could participate in the rhythm of worship.
Our services on Sunday are structured around Holy Eucharist also called Communion, Mass, or the Lord’s Supper. It’s in this service where we renew our union with Jesus in his death and resurrection, and celebrate the mysteries of our salvation, offering our common prayer to God together.
This service appeals to the whole person: heart and mind, the senses and the spirit. You’ll hear beautiful music and bells, see colorful robes (vestments) denoting different seasons of the church year, watch candlelight, and occasionally smell incense under historic stained glass windows depicting the lives of the saints. At St. Paul’s, the beauty of our worship allows us the chance to leave behind our everyday lives and enter into God’s presence, drawing us closer and inspiring us to bring the love of God’s Kingdom into the world.
On Sundays we offer two services. We hope you join us!
At 8:30am, we offer a simple, spoken communion service using traditional language (“thees and thous”) from Rite I of the Book of Common Prayer.
At 10:30am, we celebrate the Rite II of the Holy Eucharist (communion) with contemporary language and beautiful hymns from our choir and organist.
There are many opportunities to volunteer and get involved with our weekly worship. Training is provided as needed. If you would like to participate as an acolyte, altar guild member, chalice bearer, choir member, greeter, prayer leader, reader, etc. please email Mtr. Suz.
